Debian 3.0 Woody

Perhaps the most recommended distribution from the Linux World... but also one of the most difficult to dread.

Based on a all free philosophy, the Debian distribution is a great reference among the GNU/Linux distributions. Also one of the oldest but not as much as Slackware!

Its three main features are stability-speed-conviviality, it is the most secure and fast distribution, but not as much convivial. It is very appreciated by administrators. However, users may consider it out-of-date (the time used for testings programms is the longest of all the distributions).

Its outstanding update tool associated to the Debian packages has influenced entirely all the other Linux distributions.

Hard to use as first distribution, but you can use one of its derivatives to convince yourself of its quality: Knoppix, Progeny, PingoO.

Let’s not forget the last but not least: the Debian GNU/Linux!
